The advice on doing all the military rookie missions and doing some security missions is a good one. I recommend you select a NPC corp and run missions until you unlock level 2 security missions and do a dozen or two of those. During this process learn and use Eve Survival.
On the skills stuff:
If you like missiles keep hammering out your core skills as well as missile skills. Do not go into guns until you can use T2 rockets, T2 light missiles, and T2 heavy assault missiles with all the secondary skills at at least 4 (several you will want at 5).
While this will limit your ship selection a bit you will still have a broad range of options. Most fleets are open to taking along an extra crow, bellicose, sacrilege, etc. Very few small sized platforms have an engagement profile in line with that of light missile.
Download Evemon and create a skill plan for yourself. This will help teach you about the various skills a lot more than just selecting whatever you think is the best at the moment. After you have created your plan and done a dozen or so level 2 security missions but before you remap, you will want to join a corp so they can help you polish the plan a bit, help you get moved, help with your ship fittings, etc.
On Finding a Corp:
Read Nightcrawler's post about how to find a corp. Then go to factionwarfare and begin to compare and contrast the varying corps. Read their recruitment threads, look at their killboards (zkillboard, evekill, battleclinic), and then start talking with them. Don't focus on going to a specific faction, focus on finding the right corp for you. Don't expect the process to be super fast, do your due diligence and take the time to try and get it right. Having said that, if the first corp doesn't work out after a couple of weeks, talk the the CEO/Directors about the issues you are having and if they aren't willing/able to help you rectify them, move on.
On Toons:
It sounds like you already have a couple. Are you using dual character training, more than one account, or pausing your training in order to train another char on your account? I recommend against pausing your training on an account that includes your main. Long term having at least 2 accounts is super helpful, but at this stage in the process might be putting the cart before the horse. If you have a second account already subbed though, start training for a blockade runner. I recommend against buying a toon until you know how to utilize the skills and abilities of the toon and know exactly what you are looking for.
Hope that helps, - Than BLFOX is currently recruiting |
